Much has happened since filmmaker Chris Paine’s 2006 Who Killed the Electric Car? — relatively speaking. At this second stage of the documentary series, the Bay Area’s Tesla Motors bravely markets an all-electric vehicle despite inexperience; General Motors and its cloddish engineers stumble into their second attempt to do the same; and an intrepid husband-wife team of Los Angeles homemade entrepreneurs tries to adapt electronic technology to vintage autos. Meanwhile, somewhere in Japan, the Dark Prince, aka automotive ideas man par excellence Carlos Ghosn, jumps from Toyota to Nissan. Common denominator: They’re all just a tad ahead of the curve in getting ordinary drivers to buy an electric car en masse. Endlessly fascinating for car nuts. Written by Paine and P.G. Korgan and narrated by Tim Robbins. (90 min.)
