Cubist collage/assemblage has been going strong for a century, and shows no signs of deceleration; rearranging and recontextualizing bits of the real world seems to be endlessly productive. Resonance brings together the abstract paintings of Patricia Sonnino and the sculptures of Gina Telcocci, products of the scavenger’s combinatorial art. Sonnino’s previous work suggested crystalline or mosaic structures, but the adoption of collage has opened up new territory: “Head Bundle,” “Cicatrice,” “Masked Ball,” “Eggs for Breakfast,” and “Gaze Catcher” with its saucy peering eye, are quirky and humorous, reminiscent of Thomas Nozkowski, with some of Stuart Davis’s visual jazz. Telcocci’s sculptural assemblages are based on natural-world findings — seeds, pods, reeds, and roots — and have an archaic vibe, contemporized. “Trap 57” is a bicolored basket fitted with a perforated lid, like a salt shaker; “Cage” is a skeletal wooden structure suggesting antique light bulbs or mannequin heads.
