Ren the Vinyl Archeologist Free

When: Second Thursday of every month, 9 p.m.
Besides being the driving force behind the hip-hop news and party platform True Skool (celebrating its 20th year this August), DJ Ren The Vinyl Archeologist splits his time between guest-sets on KPFA, opening for top-tier acts, from Afrika Bambaataa to Wu-Tang Clan, and dropping “fiyah” mixes on a regular basis all around The Bay Area. Though well-known in hip-hop for decades, Ren has remained humble about his contributions to making sure the scene stays healthy and positive. Very few know what he looks like if they have not met face-to-face, reminiscent of the old-school hip-hop ethos toward the spinner behind the ones and twos: The DJ must be praised, he’s too busy moving butts to seek it.
