Refugee Nation

When: Fri., April 25, 8 p.m. 2008
Price: $20-$25

For the last three years writer-performers (and married couple) Leilani Chan and Ova Saopeng have been collecting oral histories of Laotian refugees scattered around the country (especially scattered because of the lack of specific "Laotowns" in urban areas) about the legacy of the US secret war in Laos during the Vietnam War and the lives of refugees and their children in this country. The resultant work continually in progress, Refugee Nation, stops by Berkeley for a two-night run as a benefit for the Center for Lao Studies and Legacies of War, an organization devoted to raising awareness of the bombing of Laos. April 25 and 26 at La Peña Cultural Center (3105 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley). LaPena.org or 510-849-2568.
