Action/Adventure, Comedy
Call it “The Make-Other-People-Kick-the-Bucket List.” Senior spooks run wild when retired CIA black op Bruce Willis joins forces with fellow graying former agents John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman to take bloody, slapstick revenge on CIA, FBI, and White House goons – including odious defense contractor Richard Dreyfuss – on general principle, for ruining the USA. Director Robert Schwentke’s mayhem-filled comedy (dozens killed) loses its novelty just past the halfway mark, but Willis and girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker, and especially Mirren and Russian ex-spy Brian Cox, make the most of Jon and Erich Hoeber’s snappy dialogue, adapted from Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer’s graphic novel. Karl Urban and Rebecca Pidgeon costar as CIA meanies, with Ernest Borgnine as a CIA nice guy. (111 min.)
