Remake of John Milius’ 1984 Russians-invade-America actioner is possibly even dumber than the original, as North Korean bullies parachute into Spokane, Washington and take over, forcing a desperate band of local youths to take to the hills as partisan freedom fighters. Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson lead the heroics. In between the firefights and the bullshit inspirational speeches, it occurs to us that if the US were indeed invaded and all industrial production halted, there would still be enough Pepsi and beer on hand to last for at least ten years. So there’s really nothing to worry about. Dan Bradley directs, from a screenplay by Carl Ellsworth and Jeremy Passmore, adapted from Milius and Kevin Reynolds’ original. (114 min.)
