In recent years, Razorlight has achieved a modicum of success in its native UK with a style that blends post-Brit-pop hooks with a gritty, Strokes-like approach. Mixing in support gigs for artists ranging from Oasis and Richard Ashcroft to classic rock elder statesmen like the Rolling Stones, Who, and Queen + Paul Rodgers found the hyper-critical English press accusing the band of selling out. That said, breaking through in the American market remains a priority for Razorlight, whose new album, Slipway Fires, sands down some of the band's grittier edges and instead finds them embracing more of a power-pop approach. Judge for yourself whether Razorlight's poison-pen wielding countrymen have a point when this British quartet invades the Independent (628 San Divisadero St., San Francisco) on Tuesday, Mar. 24. 9 p.m., $17.
