Ray LaMontagne and David Gray

When: Fri., Sept. 10, 7 p.m. 2010
Price: $39.50-$75

To paraphrase a certain candy commercial, the co-headlining tour of David Gray and Ray LaMontagne are two great tastes that go together. Both represent the current, AAA-friendly breed of singer-songwriter that manages to find homes on both the pop charts and NPR playlists across the land. Both also released new projects on the same day --Gray 'sFoundling and LaMontagne's  God Willin' & The Creek Don't Rise (accompanied by his Pariah Dogs). While Gray is an English balladeer with a penchant for unplugged sentimentality in the vein of Sting, minus the pretentiousness, LaMontagne is cut from a grittier cloth. Even though the New Hampshire native became renowned for his hushed rasp and tunes with a decidedly late night vibe, à la Van Morrison, he's more recently gone for a rootsier vibe, tossing in generous helpings of pedal steel, harp and horns into the mix. This colliding of neo-folk worlds will be going down onFriday, September 10 at the Greek Theatre (Gayley Rd. @ Hearst Ave., Berkeley), 7 p.m. $39.50-75.
