Adventure, Comedy, Horror
In a remote settlement in frosty Northern Finland, a pre-teen boy named Pietari (Onni Tommila) witnesses the capture of a mythical creature from a mountain cave – it’s the Krampus, aka Santa Claus’ evil helper, legendary punisher of naughty boys and girls. And now an army of naked old men elves goes out into the snowy night to rescue Krampus. This oddball, gasoline-gothic fantasy is the most original holiday film in decades. It brings back the sinister side of Christmas in the frozen north and also manages humor and warmth at Pietari’s antics, as he and his reindeer hunter father (Jorma Tommila) board snowmobiles to fight the goblins and demons. Little kids, however, are advised to give it a wide berth – for nightmare value it’s in a class by itself. Screenplay by director Jalmari Helander from an idea by Juuso Helander (84 min.)
