Re: “More Bands Are Chasing Fewer Bucks

This kind of a situation is especially insidious here where public funding for the arts, music in particular, is almost non existent. Being at the mercy an industry that now holds a monopoly on even the venues for creative expression is not quite the same as censorship but mimics its effect. The public is denied the benefit of a free exchange of ideas in one of its most powerful forms. Where the entire marketplace of ideas has been bought by a single entity with a stifling ideological bent, the ideas will stop coming.

As for everyone being asleep at the wheel, the wheel of blame has a spot for everyone but I’m not sure if it could have been stopped. Time for those who just listen to what’s dished out and don’t seek to start asking for more. Time for those who are above pop culture and can’t be bothered with the crap on the radio to start bothering because that’s what everyone around them hears and responds to.
To the editors: Give Pierro a column, his comment goes right to the heart of the troubles faced by struggling musicians, & I’ll start buying stuff from your advertisers.
