Re: “An Alameda Power Play?

I have kept quiet long enough. Yea, Johnson, Materesse and DeHaan voted consistently in an Ann Marie Gallant puppet block. Now that Gilmore, Bonta and Tam have a short consistent voting pattern people think they're grabbing for power. In fact, they're working diligently to make City Hall accessible to the community. BT&G have endured a lot. They have been called the SunCal slate, now this grab for power. Bonta hasn't even had a record for more than 5 meetings and people are labeling him. GET OVER YOURSELVES ACTION ALAMEDA, your candidates lost! Or, could the ugly face of old Alameda be coming out again? It's not lost on this writer that the 3 people in the HOT SEAT are all people of color. Could that be the root of dissatisfaction?

Every logical organization would move the old leadership out of the way while it transitions. They would not leave a leader, with whom many people have had issues, in place, especially in a lame duck capacity. If you ask me, I think the 3 voters acted responsibly. NOT ONE OF THEM has spoken a negative word about Ms. Gallant. Isn't it funny that no one is crying over Terri Highsmith, a nearly 14 year veteran in Alameda. Nor are they concocting the same conspiracy theories. As Miss Gallant continues to collect her $250,000/year salary until the end of her contract. It seems to me she's laughing all the way to the Bank of Alameda.

Give the new leaders a chance. Stop being so grape sour. Ms Gilmore, Mr. Bonta, and Ms. Tam are all very, very smart and appear to be very conscientious. The don't babble on and on like the others or pander to the camera. I hope we see more candidates like the three leaders. We need less members who say "Tarbaby" and not realize it's an offensive term. Or leaders who do favors for their neighbors, friends, and consultants who drive them around Washhington, DC in limos...you know who I mean, MayJo

One more thing, before the author slings the theory of back door dealing and scheming, please, please remember that the poor two who are left out in your article SCHEMED and did back door dealing to get rid of the former City Manager. I know the former Mayor actively worked to get her 3 votes for that ousting, I guess you missed that fact in your article and didn't want to portray that as any kind of grab or strong Mayor ploy.

Bravo, the East Bay Express did a piece not of their usual progressive ilk. What's next a rousing endorsement of Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney??? You guys should be proud of your journalistic integrity, you thoroughly covered ONE SIDE of the story. Al Jezeera could be in your future!

Re: “An Alameda Power Play?

For several years now, Johnson, Materesses and DeHaan enjoyed a 3 vote majority and no one batted an eye. Now that Bonta, Gilmore and Tam see eye to eye, everyone, including this ONE SIDED writer, see a grab for power. This is ridiculous.

Ann Marie Gallant was a TERRIBLE person. She was a lightening rod character for the community and held all the information in one place. She was awful to the staff, who the some people enjoy seeing squirm. She only liked the male staff members and stifled and demeaned the women in her employ. I hope the door hits her in the arse on the way out!
