Re: “Slap Hitter: Raiders—Kicking but not Alive

We all know the team played poorly .But at this point, yes Tom Cable's ability as a head coach has to be examined.I have appreciated Tom Cable's ability to get players to buy into his system. And to keep them motivated at this point in the season with nothing to play for. But, you can't ignore the fact, as many keep pointing out, that he keeps making blunders.I have said all year he has no business calling plays and drawing up offensive game plans. This morning fans and writers are asking yet again, with Michael Bush and his rushing average, and The Browns lousy run defense why on earth was Cable relying on Charlie Frye and his suspect receiving corps? Obviously when you get far enough behind you don't have a choice but to throw in many cases. but Cable was relying on the passing game early. I'm sorry that is bad decision making on the part of the offensive coordinator, who in this case happens to be the head coach.. Russell is a bust, not Cable's fault. And I do not believe it was Cable's choice to leave him as starter as long as they did. Gradkowski really fired this this team up and deserves a 2nd chance. Frye can manage the game well enough, but to put the whole thing on the shoulder's of a guy that's been running the scout team all season? And Frye's no Peyton Manning to begin with. Tom Cable did Charlie Frye no favors yesterday with the game he called. And that's my point re: Cable. His game plans and play calling have been questionable all year. And it isn't that he doesn't want to succeed, he just has no business calling plays or drawing up game plans. Art Shell was the same, the difference being Shell was aware of it and admitted it. Therefore he always had an OC. ( yes he had the wrong OC the 2nd time around) Would it be a different situation if Cable had an actual OC ? Hard to say. It's a tough call since his players love him and play hard for him, and coaching stability is important. But I don't think Al has much choice but to bring in someone else.
