Science fiction, Thriller
B-list sci-fi story about a pop-music executive named Nick (Jonathan Scarfe) troubled by mystical visions from an alternate reality he calls VALIS, something his science-fiction-writing friend Phil (Shea Whigham) tries to help him with. “Phil” is a stand-in for author Philip K. Dick, and Nick and Phil’s government-surveillance trouble has a 1980s counter-cultural tinge to it. The screenplay by director John Alan Simon isn’t crazy enough to overcome the flavorless ordinariness of the concept, adapted from Dick’s 1976 novel. Costarring Katheryn Winnick, Alanis Morissette, and Scott Wilson (111 min.).
Director: John Simon
Producer: Philip Kim, Stephen Nemeth, Dale Rosenbloom and John Simon
Cast: Jonathan Scarfe, Shea Whigham, Alanis Morissette, Katheryn Winnick, Scott Wilson, Hanna Hall, Carol Avery, Frank Collison, Mason Cotton and Ashley Greene
