Odd, disconcerting documentary talks about the necessity of bees in the balance of nature while dragging in much hippie-dippy mythic significance of the little critters, etc. But we have to believe it when foodie guru Michael Pollan declares that we depend on bees to pollinate forty percent of the food we eat. Subtitled “What Are the Bees Telling Us?”, San Francisco-based filmmaker Taggart Siegel’s doc has had much of its thunder stolen by news that Colony Collapse Disorder has somehow reversed itself since this film was made. Still, the anti-factory-farming message is timely as ever. (83 min.)
