Uninspired animated
Shrek spinoff about the title swashbuckling feline (voice of Antonio Banderas) joining forces with his female counterpart, Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek), and a wise-cracking Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) on the trail of the Goose That Laid the Golden Egg, won’t keep anyone awake at night — although DreamWorks’ Chris Miller does lavish a lot of art-love on the desert scenery and ornery characters. Aside from the “growing beanstalk” sequence the 3-D work is negligible, and composer Henry Jackman’s music score “borrows” motifs wholesale from Ennio Morricone. Nothing new, nothing strange, absolutely nothing unexpected. Hurry, change that flea collar. (90 min.)
