Drama, Suspense/Thriller
Minor sci-fi-ish thriller about dueling psychic warrior spies trying to blow each others’ minds gets a major boost from its Hong Kong location, but the screenplay is a real brain wipe. Dakota Fanning is the best thing about it as a thirteen-year-old “watcher,” with Chris Evans, Camilla Belle, Djimoun Hounsou, and Cliff Curtis also getting on our nerves as director Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) sends them through the HK streets on the trail of a magic whatsis drug in a shiny black suitcase. It’s the sort of movie that might have been called “stylish” in 1989. The headache-producing script is by David Bourla (Nostradamus) (111 min.).
