Horror, Science fiction, Thriller
In 2093, on a distant planet where a space ship full of scientists has gone to investigate the origins of life on Earth, problems arise. In order not to spoil the surprises in Ridley Scott’s smashingly entertaining sci-fi spectacle, we won’t say much more about what those problems are, except that they bear a strong resemblance to Scott’s massively influential monsters-in-space pic, Alien. Director Scott uses dazzling special effects technology to show the wonders of the brave old world, and even though in the final analysis Prometheus never quite reaches the heights of Blade Runner or the original Alien, it contains enough wowie-zowie to do the job. Believable, fully fleshed-out performances by Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, and especially Michael Fassbender as various crew members. Screenplay by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. (124 min.)
