Comedian and theater artist Shanique S. Scott is back with her autobiographical one-woman show Prisons, which she's performed periodically at La Peña Cultural Center and other venues since its 2006 debut. This time Black Repertory Group (3201 Adeline St., Berkeley) hosts her solo show about surviving a harsh and unforgiving upbringing in the South Bronx and trying to break out of the prison of her past to build a new life for herself. Feeling abandoned by the public school system and going from an abusive mother and alcoholic father to group homes where everyone has a horror story, Scott manages to find humor and a measure of redemption in her own rocky journey into adulthood. October 17 to 19. BlackRepertoryGroup.com or 510-652-2120.
