Action/Adventure
Embarrassingly stupid costumed adventure has sand in its gears and fleas in its screenplay. What else would you expect from producer Jerry Bruckheimer? A foundling prince and a headstrong princess destroy numerous computer-generated locales on the trail of a magical time-rearranging dagger. As the p&p, Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton could set back American-Iranian relations another hundred years – but then anyone would look bad mouthing that dialogue. Mike Newell, once an interesting director, seems to have misplaced his storytelling talisman. Same thing must have happened to Boaz Yakin, who led the search party of screenwriters adapting the video game. Obviously got bit by the Indy Jones/Harry Potter beetle. Also yelling their lines in the large cast: Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. Made in Morocco but definitely not socko(116 min.).
