Half a good police story. Colin Farrell and Noah Emmerich play a pair of Irish-American brothers-in-law, both NYPD officers, on the take from drug dealers in the Bronx. Edward Norton is Emmerich’s straight-arrow brother, also a cop and investigating a suspicious massacre that killed four fellow officers. Jon Voight plays Norton and Emmerich’s father, a top cop himself. Trouble all around, most notably in the borderline corny dialogue by Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) and TV writer Gavin O’Connor (who also directed), but also in the rack focus shots and the angry cops’ habit of slamming their hands into the wall in every scene. Redeeming facet: Farrell’s James Cagney imitation. Bloody loud and bloody ordinary (125 min.).
