Action/Adventure, Horror, SciFi/Fantasy
Heavily armed badasses, thrown by a force unknown into an unexplored jungle, are hunted like pheasant by the title species, which made its debut in the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Jesse Ventura vehicle Predator (1987). Among others, there's an elite mercenary (Adrien Brody), a comely Guatemalan freedom fighter (Alice Braga), a Southern-fried death-row psychopath (Walter Groggins), and an enforcer for a Mexican drug cartel (Danny Trejo). This is less a franchise reboot than a portmanteau of the original movie, ABC's Lost, hokey old World War II programmers, and all the money in the world. The dialogue is dumber than dirt, and the plot crumbles at the halfway mark, but the movie does what a loud summer blockbuster should, which is loudly bust blocks. Nimrod Antal directed (107 min.).
