Crime drama
The Child Protection Unit of the Paris, France police department crashes around investigating crimes, usually sexual, against children. This stressful policier assumes the shape of a string of unhappy vignettes, with distressed families galore and a squad of steamed flics chasing a child-prostitution ring, incestuous parents, naughty teenagers, etc. Plenty of acting opportunities for Karin Viard, Emmanuelle Bercot, Frédéric Pierrot, Sandrine Kiberlain, and the rest of the high-powered cast, with nervous direction by actress-turned-filmmaker Maïwenn, who also plays a role in the action. Will be hard to take for most auds but is definitely worthwhile, on a subject mainstream Hollywood wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. The screenplay is by Maï and actress Bercot. (129 min.)
Director: Maïwenn
Cast: Karin Viard, Joeystarr, Marina Foïs, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Maïwenn, Karole Rocher, Frédéric Pierrot and Emmanuelle Bercot
