Points of Departure

When: Sat., May 19, 3 p.m. 2018
Price: free
Both Andy Warhol and Albrecht Dürer are referenced in Points of Departure, the superb printmaker show now open at Bridge Storage and ArtSpace in Richmond, co-sponsored by the California Society of Printmakers. But nature is the river that runs through it. Featuring screenprints, linocuts, monotypes, etchings, woodcuts, and many other types of printing art from 44 artists, themes of nature resurgent (Jan Cook’s “Revival”) and in peril (Herlinde Spahr’s “Pitch XVII”) dominate. The nature of human existence is explored in Maryly Snow’s lovely etching “Cycle 3: Dearly Departed, Becoming Stardust” and Karen Benioff Friedman’s meditation on the Jewish practice of taharah, “Walking at the Wheel of Heaven.” According to show materials, each piece in the show was chosen to “illustrate an important shift in the development” of the artist’s work, and creation dates range from 1973 to this year. All are showcased beautifully in Bridge’s newly redesigned, airy gallery.
