Poetry Express: Jeanne Powell

When: Mon., Dec. 17, 7:30 p.m. 2007
Phone: 510-644-3977
Price: free

Through her Living Treasures Series, Jeanne Powell publishes the works of poets over age seventy -- and that's only one of many righteous efforts Powell has undertaken on behalf of literary diversity. Widely published in poetry journals, she is the author of My Own Silence. (Sample lines: "logic said they left her a way to escape/they won't burn her she's their only/Aboriginal symbol/pioneer and champion/reason replied they burn symbols have/incinerated pioneers.") She's the headliner at this week's Poetry Express on Dec. 17 at Priya Indian Cuisine (2072 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley). An open mic follows. 7 p.m.
