Most people know Chaz Bundick for his chillwave/synth-pop group Toro y Moi, who first made a splash on the scene with their debut Causers Of This in 2010. Over the years, as Toro y Moi have taken different directions album to album, Bundick has started up side projects to experiment even more. Earlier this year for instance, he released Star Stuff, a collaborative record with jazz duo Mattson 2. Last September, Bundick released a single — a nearly eight-minute-long song — under the moniker PLUM, and promised more music to follow. Judging by this one tune, PLUM is Bundick at his strangest. It’s eight minutes of wobbly, otherworldly, ambient synth sounds that still carries a certain beauty. This Saturday at the Starline Social Club, Bundick presents his debut live performance as PLUM. This event is also the premiere showcase for Bundick’s label, Company Records and its signees including Tanukichan, Madeline Kenney, and Vinyl Williams.
Saturday, July 8, 5 pm, $25, 2236 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Oakland, StarlineSocialClub.com.
