In an apparent violation of state law, Pleasanton Mayor Janet Hosterman used her official e-mail account to ask for campaign contributions and endorsements, reports the Contra Costa Times. The city's lawyers have referred the matter to the Alameda County D.A.'s office. The news came to light after Dan Carl, treasurer of challenger Steve Brozosky's campaign, got ahold of the e-mails after making a public records request. Hosterman said she meant to send the e-mails, which the Times reports includes her asking "individuals to attend campaign meetings in her support, [requesting] help in putting up yard signs, and [thanking] one Pleasanton couple for a $1,000 donation," from a different account. Oops.
