Breakdancing has come a long way since its earliest beginnings in the '70s; its reach is now global, and its steps more complex. Also known as “b-boying,” this street-based form of expression travels well across continents: the dancers’ emotions fuel idiosyncratic moves that often incorporate elements of national culture (as in Japan, where b-boys draw on samurai lore). Benson Lee’s crackling 2007 video documentary follows five teams as they compete for a world title, with one amazing number after another showcasing the dancers’ chorus-line precision, gymnastic athleticism, and thematic novelty. In English and subtitled French, Korean, and Japanese (98 min.).
