Action, Comedy
From the Judd Apatow Laff Factory comes the saga of a schnook named Dale (Seth Rogen from Knocked Up and Superbad) and his weed dealer Saul (James Franco of Spider-Man 3, unrecognizable), a pair of stoners who spend the entire running time of this irresistible farce smoking Saul’s primo pakalolo and fleeing, ineptly, from a gang of hoods. Franco steals the show. As usual with Apatow, he and his writers (Rogen and Evan Goldberg) turn dialogue most actors would be ashamed to utter into the funniest lines you’ve ever heard — it’s all in the context. Also with Danny R. McBride, Kevin Corrigan, and Rosie Perez. What, no Cheech and Chong? Directed by David Gordon Green, who once upon a time (George Washington) was a maker of sly, insinuating character studies (112 min.).
