Phat Beets Produce is a nonprofit that’s all about restorative justice, equity — plus healthy foods and affordable access to them. This weekend, PBP will host two pretty important events: First, on Saturday, a pop-up market in North Oakland, at Driver Plaza, complete with veggies and fruits for purchase, food vendors, and an opportunity to learn more about resistance, including a panel on “land liberation in the face of gentrification” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with guests from POOR Magazine and the Self-Help Hunger Program. And then, on Sunday, PBP is helping put on “Backyard,” a community cook-out featuring Chez Panisse alum doing barbecue (family-style), seasonal drinks by folks from Berkeley’s Spice Co., a demo on flower arrangements, and more. Proceeds from Backyard will benefit Phat Beets, which is saving up to launch its Food Justice Food Truck soon.

Saturday, June 24, 10am-3pm. Adeline and 61st streets in Oakland. And the Backyard event is Sunday, June 25, 3-8pm, $45-50; search for tickets on EventBrite. PhatBeetsProduce.org.
