Adventure, Animated, Comedy, Fantasy
Alain Gagnol and Jean-Loup Felicioli, makers of the charming animated romp A Cat in Paris, dial down the cuteness and head for wistfulness in the story of Leo, a terminally ill eleven-year-old boy confined to his bed in a hospital, whose fantasies take him out the window and into the skies of New York City as an invisible crime-fighter. The narrative, written by Gagnol, is more or less a hook on which to hang the filmmakers’ graphic schemes, which are splendid — with a touch of noir as Leo (voice of Edouard Baer), a friendly police detective (Jared Padalecki), a pretty fellow crime-stopper (Audrey Tautou), and a criminal mastermind named Broken-Face (Jean-Pierre Marielle) mix it up in the imaginatively designed streets and alleyways (84 min).
