Arriving with big dreams, undocumented workers face harsh treatment, according to Underground America, the third compilation in McSweeney's Voice of Witness series. Novelist and San FranciscoState professor Peter Orner, its editor, discusses the compilation -- and the individuals who tell their stories within -- at the East Bay Jewish Community Center (1414 Walnut St., Berkeley) on August 28. Orner's novel The Second Coming of MavalaShikongo was a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize. 7:30 p.m.
