Re: “A New Barbecue Regionalism

The author needs to do his homework when it comes to BBQ and what its all about, because its clear he doesn't know anything about it or its roots.

He seems to imply that BBQ is a Black American thing and that white "guys" are just now starting to do BBQ, but only with high-end fancy smokers. BBQ is NOT a Black thing or a white thing. Spend 2 minutes in BBQ country(or on a website about BBQ if you can't make the trip) and you'll see that whites and blacks do BBQ and have been doing so for many generations.

The white guys at Great American BBQ in Alameda have been doing BBQ for a long time (long before they bought that restaurant in 2007), smoking their meat with logs of wood, not just "sprinkling hickory chips into high-end commercial smoker boxes."

"Barbecue's soul-food style rules at Everett and Jones..." BBQ is not soul food. If you think it is, then you don't know anything about either.

Sorry, but this article does a disservice to the Q-culture.
