Re: “Kaplan, Quan, and Tuman for Oakland Mayor

I've been filling out my absentee ballot. Joe Tuman is my number one. I can't bring myself to fill in the number two and three spots with any of the other candidates, especially Perata.

Re: “Fresh Face Or Old Guard?

Rather than comparisons to recent presidential candiates, I would liken the mayoral line up to Harry Potter characters, where Joe Tuman parallels the enlightened, selfless, wise, intelligent, tough, grown up - like Dumbledore compared to Don Perata as the scheming, manipulative Lord Voldemort with dark Slytherin loyalties. I haven't nailed the right Harry Potter alter-egos for Jean Quan and Rebecca Kaplan yet, but I'm taking suggestions.

Re: “Fresh Face Or Old Guard?

Interesting that this article gives Rebecca Kaplan credit for the idea of lowering police starting salaries and getting older cops to retire early as means to enlarge the force. Joe Tuman has been campaigning on this idea for months, and Rebecca as a council person has been in a position to move such a policy forward - and has not. Also, her getting between the police and the Meserle verdict protesters was pretty wreckless during a time when the council was negotiating with the police union.
