Re: “Why the Oakland A’s Should Rethink the Laney College Site

I think real problem for the A's and the city is the negative implications of rebuilding on the Coliseum site. IT would work for a year or two, and then we'd be right back to low attendance and boring product, and the inevitable move of the A's out of Oakland.

Howard Terminal sounds good on paper but will not work for many reasons, with cost of developing there being the highest. If the city wanted a stadium there, then they should have started the process of getting the many agencies involved signed off, and had the environmental impact report in hand, but that didn't happen, so it's out.

As an Oakland resident and a fan of the team, I'm pulling for the Peralta site, although I know the A's are probably stuck with where they are. It will only work there if the city eminent domain from 66th ave to high street along Coliseum way . Most of what's there can easily be relocated elsewhere. They need to create an area where people will be there whether there's a game there or not. You'd also want the fans to spend their $$ in the area, not hop in whatever mode of transportation they used and spend it outside of our city.

City leaders in SF allowed the warriors to build a stadium next to a hospital. Oakland doesn't have city officials with the smarts or creativity to get something like this done at any location.
