Re: “Saving the Coliseum

What is the financial benefit to Oaklander's??? We know the money we have spent!!! If there is no real financial benefit then we need to turn it in to a positive facility ... like HOUSING!!! Where we can get the tax benefits. Housing for teachers, police, even affordable units alone with senior units. Play areas for kids etc. Local shopping should be included. Maybe keep the Arena facility renting it out during Warriors games to be shown on big screens. Fans love to be with fans!!!

Re: “Did Race Play a Role in a Willard School Incident?

They should contact Attorney John Burris to get justice for this young man. The boy was injured by the car becasue of the man's action. If the child had been killed would they still have let him go??? The man was WRONG and his actions and his alone caused the child to be injured. He needs to be sued and jailed for reckless driving and child endangerment!!!

Re: “David West, a Warrior for Justice

We thank West for all he has done. Nice article but it's time for some salient facts!!!

1) in 2017, 987 people from ALL races were killed by police.
2) 233 were Black people. Of those 20 were UNARMED!!!

Lets look at Oakland with a police force of approx 700 officers. If they only personally responded to 10 contacts with the public daily that equates to 7000 contacts per day!!! Over a year it's 2,555,000 contacts with the public!!!
Is 20 unarmed deaths of Blacks really a lot considering America is a nation of almost 1 gun per individual. That would mean 400,000 guns in Oakland. Police are SCARED!!! They too want to go home to their families!!! The young man in Sac. It's DARK, he's jumping fences being chased by cops. Cops yell stop hands up!!! We as a people should not be putting ourselves in these situations to be shot by police.

Those 20 unarmed deaths in 2017 didn't all happen in Oakland, CA. They happened across America among our 18,000 police forces!!! Let assume 5 contacts per force daily 5 x 18,000 or 90,000 contacts with public daily and approx 32,850,000 per yr!!! YES THIRTY TWO MILLION Resulted in 20 unarmed Black deaths in 2017. White deaths 437, of which 30 were unarmed.

Black people account for approx 12% of the population. Yet we are statistically the largest group of people in jails. Is it really about the police or US as a people??? In Chicago there was more than 700 gun deaths the majority would be Blacks. What states kill more unarmed Blacks? It's TX (2), FL (3), LA (3), GA (2) & CALIFORNIA (2)!!!

As a Black man living in Oakland I know we are better than this!!! We need to put more focus on US as a people than police shootings!!!

Thank you,

Re: “Wednesday’s Briefing: #JoggerJoe Arrested; Initiative to Divide California Qualifies for November Ballot

Jogger Joe clearly went over board. What has happened to litter laws? If I were to litter I'm certain I would be fined and possibly jailed. If I were to use drugs openly I know I would be arrested. Where is the fairness in our laws? Thousands of Black people are in jails for drug offenses. Yet now that Whites have a drug problem no more arrests!!! Release the Blacks from our jails so today's druggie's will have a place to get their lives together.

Re: “Warriors Agree to Pay Oakland 'Up To' $1.23 Million for Tomorrow's Parade

@David Fabie >>Oakland's share of what is the Bay Area's greatest civic problem.<< Homelessness is a problem. However, IMO many of these people are not, have never been residents of Oakland. They are new to Oakland as you are. Why is Oakland and other Bay Area cities responsible for America's problems??? These people need to be identified, put on buses to their original hometowns and families so they can be cared for properly.
