Re: “Oakland Considers Removing Car Lanes, Adding Bikeways on Grand Avenue

First I'd like to congratulate all those advocacy, city staff and community members who brought this first, baby-bike step to fruition on a portion of Grand.

Yet, if forward-looking cities are racing to promote bicycling for all the often innumerated reasons, we need a comprehensive bike plan with public & private resources, and persons who aren't afraid to get ahead of the curve with real leadership, and not just a wet finger to test the way the wind's blowing. The city commissioned a professional study to consider application on Grand of protective bike lanes, back-in angle parking, but those more impressive bike/pedestrian/auto safety features were really never on the table for this project.
