Re: “Proposed Bullhook Ban in Oakland Stirs Debate Over Jobs Versus Animal Cruelty

The only party to position the ordinance as "jobs versus animal cruelty" is Feld Entertainment the parent company of Ringling Bros. Circus. The ordinance will not take away one job, as it does not prevent the circus from performing in Oakland. The ordinance only bans the use of bullhooks; a weapon that resembles a fireplace poker, and is designed to inflict pain on and instill fear in elephants. The ordinance merely takes the position that Ringling Bros. Circus is welcome but the abuse of elephants is unacceptable and not welcome. However Feld is stating that it can't make elephants perform without using a bullhook on them. And out of vindictiveness, Feld has threatened that if Oakland passes the ban, Feld may not bring any of their shows to Oakland, including Disney on Ice and Monster Truck Jam. By threatening to withhold its shows from Oakland Feld is threatening the jobs of people who rely on them for a living. This attempt by Feld to hold the City of Oakland hostage to its demands establishes that Feld does not give a damn about the City of Oakland and its workers. The owner of Ringling Bros. , Ken Feld, is a billionaire. For Feld to threaten the livelilhood of working class people should not only be considered dispicable it should be considered unacceptable. Many circuses perform without elephants but Feld insist on cruelly beating elephants for its circus shows. And like a spoiled little child Feld has intimated that if the City of Oakland does not play by Feld's rules and allow them to abuse elephants it will take its marbles and leave town. Moreover, if Feld wants to make money Feld needs US cities to hold performances of its shows. How many cities can Feld afford to withhold its shows from before Feld is no longer making money? Accordingly, Feld's threat of pulling all of its shows out of Oakland may be just an empty threat.

Re: “Hunting With a Rat

Typical Yahoo hunters. Drinking, talking about the sacredness of life while on the other hand killing for the fun of it and complaining about invasive species while they are driving around in automobiles and carrying guns made in other countries. If these hunters want to kill off invasive species then they should kill each other. Of course hunters are not known for their their intellect and this article confirms why. BTW - A person doesn't need to kill animals to spend hours in the wilderness, I do it all the time; I get dirty, tired and sunburned all without killing. I came "face to face with my decision to eat meat" a long time ago. Unlike Yahoos who decide to face that decision with enjoyment of wanton killing I decided to respect animals and hold their lives sacred and became Vegan. Talk is cheap; actions speak louder than words.
