Actor-turned-filmmaker John Turturro had the bright idea to do for Naples, Italy what Buena Vista Social Club did for Havana, Cuba, and this nifty documentary pulls it off with a maximum of style. The feisty Neapolitan people and the city’s glorious, crumbling scenery tell their own stories (we wish there were more) but Turturro focuses on the music – by folkloric guitarist Fausto Cigliano, Arab-Italian singer M’Barka Ben Taleb, classic old-time performers such as Massimo Ranieri and Angela Luce, and many more. Like pasta, he throws it on the wall and some of it sticks. Narrated by Turturro. (90 min.)
Director: John Turturro
