Panda Bear

When: Thu., May 22, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $25
As Panda Bear, Animal Collective’s Noah Lennox makes experimental pop music using synthesizers, samples, and loops of his ethereal voice. He’s a masterful knob-turner, as evidenced on 2007’s much adored, psychedelic Person Pitch, as well as its follow-up, 2011’s Tomboy. For his new record, tentatively titled Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper, drums will be the focal point. “It’s heavier and break-centric music,” Lennox said in an interview with the music blog Under the Radar. It’s hard to imagine denser, more heavily textured soundscapes than the ones Lennox created on those aforementioned releases, but as he has proven with his work in Animal Collective, the musician is wonderfully capable of reinventing himself. Panda Bear will play The Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco) on Thursday.
