And it's a doozy. For the festival's sixth incarnation, which goes down August 9-11 in Golden Gate Park, organizers lined up characteristically eclectic mix of big-name, crowd-pleasing headliners (RHCP, Phoenix, Paul McCartney), Pitchfork darlings (Youth Lagoon, Chromatics, Grizzly Bear), and throwback acts (Hall and Oates!!!!!, Camper Van Beethoven), plus a handful of wild cards, locals, and Easter eggs of various kinds; see the full lineup below. Three-day passes to the festival go on sale Thursday at $235, after which they'll go up to $250 — buy tickets and get all the logistical info at the Outside Lands website.

History-laden thrillers, intellectual capers, a romantic heroine with a Ph.D, a murder mystery penned by a MacArthur Genius: This summer’s best books — many of which have local authors and settings — are equal parts brainy and beachy.
