Re: “Quote of the Day

As an afterthought- I'm a bit irritated by how some national coverage, and the comments in the SF Chronicle portrays the anger as a 1980s style black vs. white Rodney King dynamic. While Oakland does have some racial tensions, it has it's own culture and idiosyncracies that are different from Los Angeles or the east coast or south. The demographic of the protesters (both the responsible people in Fruitvale, and the arrested group) appeared to be fairly multiracial.

My main problem with BART is their high ticket prices, especially when combined with poor service such as locked bathrooms and the short hours. Indeed, I have had several hours of exposure to the street scene by DeLauer's newsstand and the drugstore downtown because of taking the bus alternative to BART where BART isn't running. It deposits you above the 12th street station downtown where you wait 20-30min for a transfer. There are lots of young people downtown. Most aren't immediately threatening, but maybe many of these are the ones who took the opportunity two days ago to do a bit of vandalism.
