Otis Taylor CD Release

When: Thu., May 29, 8 & 10 p.m. and Fri., May 30, 8 & 10 p.m. 2008
Price: $18-$22

Otis Taylor grew up playing the blues, but got sidetracked by a rock 'n' roll career that included time playing with T&O Short Line with Tommy Bolin and Zephyr. Taylor quit the music biz in 77, returning as a born-again bluesman in 1995. Since then he's been exploring the roots of the blues, tracing the music back to black pre-blues work songs, field hollers, and folk music. His latest effort, Recapturing the Banjo, investigates the African-American music that gave birth to bluegrass, country and old time music with the help of Alvin Youngblood Hart, Corey Harris, and Keb' Mo'. Expect to be educated by Taylor's historical patter and enthralled by his musicianship and back porch charisma.Otis Taylor plays Thursday and Friday, May 29 and 30 at Yoshi's in Oakland. 8:00 and 10:00p.m.Thursday $18.00, Friday $22.00. yoshis.com
