This grab bag of Oscar-nominated shorts – in both animated and live-action flavors – is definitely worthwhile. The animations have a slight edge, especially Logorama, a wonderfully satirical “police chase” spoof that riffs on every corporate logo known to humanity, including Ronald McDonald as a desperado. Also superb: Nick Park’s bakery-centric Wallace & Gromit adventure, A Matter of Loaf and Death, and Kavi, writer-director Gregg Helvey’s socially conscious, downbeat look at the life of a young boy indentured into the life of a brick maker in contemporary India (95 min.).
