Rock singer Jefffrey Kagel went to India just as his band, Blue Öyster Cult, was making it big in the 1970s, and after a spiritual internship with the holy man Maharaji, Kagel eventually became a yoga teacher and chant master. So why should we care? Kagel, now known as Krishna Das, comes across a bit simplistic and self-indulgent, and this documentary profile by filmmaker Jeremy Frindel lacks a crucial bit of context. How and why was Maharaji so special? What exactly makes either one of them the object of ecstatic adulation? In that respect, the film is for people who are already devotees. Others may find their minds wandering. (72 min.)
