Re: “Will the People Get a Fair Trial?

I don’t get it.

BART police have only one job in my mind – to protect its riders. They, like all police, put their lives on the line each and everyday. I could not imagine a more terrifying situation than to hear there is a fight onboard a train on New Year’s Eve. Someone could have a gun, most are probably intoxicated, there could be felons, gang-members, whatever, whomever involved.

I do not agree with the East Bay Express proclaiming that it’s “the people” who may not get a fair trial in the change of venue – the Express is setting up a “we” versus “them” argument where it’s “the people” versus the police. Ridiculous. I am also part of “the people” and with all of the riots and statements being made in support of Mr. Grant, agree that the BART officer may not get a fair trial in Alameda.

My viewing of the videos was that Mr. Grant was belligerent; he kept getting up and getting up, agitated. That the BART police officer grabbed his gun instead of his Taser is unfortunate but a mistake, not murder.
