Re: “It All Comes Down to the Unions

I went to the libraries meeting to speak my mind about no parcel tax and the need for more police and was totally bullied and intimidated by the library crowd. It was awful! I could not believe how unprofessional and twisted it was. One woman kept accosting me with I heart Oakland library stickers - I just wanted to be left alone. I was too intimidated to speak out and ended up going home discouraged and really saddened. Mayor Quan is a master manipulator and she never had any intention to cut any libraries. Our city will never get better until we realize that crime is what holds us back and until we get serious about crime we are going to continue to be stuck in a welfare state mentality and never attract businesses that can pull us out of our economic doldrums.

Re: “Libraries on the Brink

Really? We need over 20 libraries in Oakland? Give me a break. There was a shooting around the corner from my house last night and no one can investigate because there is not enough funding for police. Prioritize! Oakland does not need as many libraries as it has. There are plenty of neighborhoring communities - not to mention the 4 that would remain open. Oakland doesn't have any money - it has been drained by corruption, bad decisions and our welfare mentality. Get a grip and get on with the current reality. I wonder if you would be so concerned about your precious libraries if someone in your home was shot and no one could do a thing about it or maybe if your home burned down in a fire but no fire fighters were available. But hey - you could always hang out at the library!
