An Oakland father was shot and killed in front of his children and his wife yesterday evening by two would-be robbers, the Trib reports. The victim, Alvaro J. Ayala, 28, was the city’s first homicide of 2010. Ayala and his wife and kids had just returned to their East Oakland home from a shopping trip and were about to go inside their house when the two-robbers confronted them and demanded money. But before Ayala could respond, they shot him to death. His wife and children were not hurt.
