Re: “Merritt College Nursing Woes

I was one of the students to drop out after the first exam. No way was I going to stay in such a horribly run, unfair program. I went to the Summer Bridge prep program, as did MOST of my classmates. I have a BA from a UC. I am a straight A student. I aced all my prerequisites (while working full-time and with a child at home!) and scored very high on the TEAS (the entrance exam). I failed the first exam. I dropped out and am applying elsewhere for next year. What a horrible program. The teachers would not even let us review our exams to see where we went wrong!!! What kind of teaching is that????

To be honest, this article did not even begin to touch on the horrors that our class experienced. Furthermore, there are now about 35 people left in the program - a couple more failed out and several more dropped, even though they were passing. From 103 students on the first day of class in August, to around 35 two months later. Something is seriously wrong here.

I fully believe that our class had it much worse than previous classes at Merritt. The textbook changed, the teaching changed, the standards changed. The chancellor confirmed all this at our meeting with him!

Stay well clear of this nursing program. We all lost thousands of dollars (from lost income) and dealt with intense emotional stress from the situation. Also, many students were accepted to other nursing schools, but turned down acceptances to attend Merritt for whatever personal reasons they may have had. Truly awful.
