Oak Knoll Clean-up Is Near?

A deal to clean-up the former Oak Knoll Naval Hospital property in the Oakland hills may be imminent, the Chron reports. Lehman Bros., which filed for bankruptcy last year and owns the site with developer SunCal, reportedly is close to announcing an agreement to finance the massive clean-up of the property, which is strewn with overgrown weeds, toxins, and hollowed out buildings. If the $7 million clean-up goes forward, then credit is due to Don Mitchell of the Sequoyah Hill/Oak Knoll Neighborhood Association, who has led the fight to get Lehman and SunCal to fix the huge mess, and to Oakland City Attorney John Russo, who has battled in court to make it happen.
