Documentary
Ridiculously entertaining documentary on Australian sex, violence, and car-crash genre flicks of the ‘70s and ‘80s uses machine-gun montage and plenty of gabby talking heads — notably Quentin Tarantino — to explain that, while international audiences were discovering serious art films and prestigious epics by such directors as Peter Weir and Bruce Beresford, the moviegoers back home in Oz were gorging themselves on “ocker” (good old boy) humor, full frontal nudity, psycho killers, giant wild boars, loathsome bikers, kung-fu, projectile vomiting (“chunder”), werewolves, and Jamie Lee Curtis, not necessarily in that order. Filmmaker Mark Hartley’s compilation looks for all the world like the feature-length trailer for a fifty-DVD special edition on the Ozploitation years. Heaven help us (103 min.).
